This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others and make a range of operational business decisions.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in any hospitality industry sector as a departmental or small business manager. The diversity of employers includes restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multiskilling and for specialisation in accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage and gaming.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

This course will be delivered over a 108-week period of over 20 hours per week of study (including course delivery of 88 weeks, assessment, public holidays and break of 20 weeks.)

However, if you have already been awarded your SIT30816 Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and/or SIT40516 Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery by Goldthorn College you will hold a number of units of competency common from Certificate III / Certificate IV to Diploma qualifications. You will be eligible for a Credit Transfer for each of the common units enabling you to complete the remainder of the course over 26 weeks.

If you have obtained your SIT30816 Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and/or SIT40516 Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery from another Registered Training Organisation (RTO) you will also be eligible to have your existing knowledge and skills recognised by granting Credit transfer on the application of the same.

This program is delivered over 20 hours per week which includes theory component in a classroom environment and practical component of the course is delivered in the Goldthorn’s on-campus Training Kitchen and through Work Placements.

As part of SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management, you will be required to complete a total of 288 hours of Work placement in an operational commercial kitchen.  This will allow you to obtain practical skills and experience in real workplace settings and assist you to be employable in the industry at graduation.

All Assessments of units of competence will be conducted according to the assessment guidelines and competency standards of the official Training Package for this qualification.

Students will be required to perform in a range of assessments including and but limited to:  Short Answer questions, Case Study, Role plays, Presentations, Practical Demonstration, Computer based activities etc.

In order to attain this qualification students are required to complete 28 units of competency consisting of thirteen (13) core units and fifteen (15) elective units.

Students may apply for exemption for any unit in which they can successfully demonstrate competency. (Please refer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfers section of the Goldthorn College Student Handbook).

There are no entry requirements for this qualification specified in the nationally recognised training package; however, Goldthorn College does specify a number of eligibility requirements.

We accept enrolments on the basis of their demonstrated capacity to succeed.

Academic Requirement

Completion of Year 12 or equivalent.

 Age requirements

All students must be over 18 years of age at the commencement of the course.

 English Language requirements

  • All overseas students should demonstrate the English requirements as required by the Department of Home Affairs. Further information available on homeaffairs.gov.au
  • Goldthorn College accepts IELTS, PTE Academic, TOEFL as per below indicated scores:
    • IELTS (Academic Module) – Overall band score of 5.5
    • TOEFL (Internet-based) – 46
    • PTE Academic English – 42

PTR & LLN Requirement:

All students are required to undertake a pre-training review (PTR) which aims to identify their training needs through questions on previous education or training, relevance of the courses to learner, and relevant experience.

Students undertaking a VET course must possess sound language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills to successfully complete the course. All students are required to undertake a language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) test conducted by Goldthorn College.
